Self Love is the Best Love

February is the month of love – a time for emphasizing the importance of love in our lives. Couples show their love and romance by giving beautiful cards, heart-shaped candy, flowers, and maybe even dinner. But what about self-love?

Self-love is the best love. That's why this month, I want to challenge you to love on yourself and accept where you are in life and the things you've been through.

"Your value is determined by what you accept." I don't recall where I read this quote, but value equates to self-love. There comes a time in your life when you are supposed to remember the lessons you learned and stop carrying the baggage from those experiences. I've learned that once you accept your life's journey, new doors filled with new opportunities and blessings will open up.

Self-love starts with you. Here are some tips to get you started on your self-love journey.

1. Forgive yourself for your past. No one is perfect. We are all beautifully flawed people with unique life experiences. Let go of the past before you end up feeling broken. Take a deep breath and let go. Ask God for forgiveness and forgive yourself. Don't punish yourself for the mistakes you've made. Think of those mistakes as life lessons. Be grateful for the insight and opportunity. Allow yourself to be at peace and know that the experience has helped you grow.

2. You are valuable. Never decrease based on someone else's ability to see your worth. Your experiences have value. Think about how you overcame a situation. What lessons did you learn? Did you learn something that you can share with others? Share your experiences with someone else that may be going through something similar to what you went through. If you don't feel comfortable sharing your story, offer some words of encouragement. Never look to find fault but find the lesson to be learned. Don't play the blame game.

3. You deserve to be celebrated. Celebrate your wins, even the small ones. Why? Because you proved just how strong you are by what you have endured. You overcame what was meant to destroy you. But God stepped in! Invest in yourself. Spend time with yourself. You deserve it. Go for a walk, listen to music, draw, or write. Just do something with yourself by yourself.

4. Your happiness is a priority. Making your happiness, your focus can be difficult when you have people depending on you. Always remember that you can't always put others before yourself. Your happiness is dependent upon what you do and what you accept. You don't need anyone's approval to be happy. Don't let anyone make you feel like you're acting selfish.

Self-love is powerful and healing. It is the key to mental, spiritual, and emotional health. It will empower and restore you. You can change your whole life when you heal, forgive, and make yourself a priority.
